House Prices
Here are price guides for different suburbs and towns in New Zealand.
Auckland House Prices
Christchurch House Prices
Wellington House Prices
North Island Towns House Prices
South Island Towns House Prices
Auckland is New Zealand's main financial and commercial centre and has the highest house prices in the country.
Prices are at their highest in suburbs in central Auckland and the North Shore.
Wellington is New Zealand's capital and is home to a large number of highly-paid government employees, who push house prices higher in a number of suburbs.
Christchurch has the lowest average house prices of any the country's three largest cities.
For this reason, amongst others, it is popular with teachers, police officers and other workers who prefers a city location and who find their money buys more house in Christchurch than in Wellington on Auckland.
In general, house prices are higher in the more populated North Island than they are in the South Island.
Queenstown, an alpine resort on the South Island, where a number of high profile movie stars have bought property, is the major exception to this rule.
House prices have grown strongly during the last few years in New Zealand, to the concern of New Zealand's central bank - The Reserve Bank. Following a number of mortgage interest-rate increases, house price growth has slowed to around 10 percent in 2006.
